Setting Minimum Prices for Food Independence in Times of Crisis

An economics teacher suggested in my class, there is a potential for setting minimum prices for locally produced staples, whose production is inefficient compared to foreign producers.

In a nightmare scenario during or even in the aftermath of the pandemic, countries could opt to stop exporting food and keep it for themselves, cutting food supply chains. Therefore, minimum prices could be set to sustain these inefficient yet crucial industries for longer, while they should be compelled to increase their production efficiency.
