Previously, over concerns broadband had an excessive burden with stay at home policies, some video stream sites throttled bit rates or default video quality to provide relief to a network on its knees with the increasing pressure of remote work and study to comply with coronavirus fueled quarantine policies. The first measures to reduce web traffic, were applied to Europe amid concerns from European politicians.
Now YouTube is taking a broader stance to default videos to a lower quality for the whole globe.
